A Family Enterprise Fagerdala was founded in 1964 at Värmdö, Sweden, as a foam fabricating company, by father and son Alf and Dag Landvik. In 1973, also Mikael Magnusson became a partner. The first premises were in a former farm house. By 1989, the group had expanded to 10 factories around the world specialising in the development, manufacture and sale of technical foams. The TEMPUR Project During the 1980's, Dan-Foam had been striving to develop a large-scale manufacturing process for the TEMPUR Material, originally invented by NASA. Through the acquisition of Dan-Foam, Fagerdala entered the challenge to finalise the TEMPUR Project, and eventually be able to include this highly innovative foam material in its product range. Back to top 1991 - Launch of the TEMPUR Mattress and Pillow Ready for launch after 5,000 trials In 1991, after more than 5,000 documented trials, the TEMPUR Material was finally ready for launch. The original idea had been to manufacture medical pressure sore prevention mattresses and cushions. During the development time it had even been noticed that TEMPUR was beneficial for rheumatic problems. The back pain mattress and pillow At the time of the successful mastering of the process technology it was proposed that TEMPUR also might be helpful to relieve back pain - being another orthopaedic ailment. Trials in cooperation with Swedish back specialists immediately confirmed this. An instant success The discovery of the benefits of TEMPUR for back problems dramatically increased the potential of the product. As more than 50 percent of all people suffer from various degrees of back pain, TEMPUR clearly had a great mission to accomplish. When the TEMPUR Mattress and Pillow were introduced to the public in Sweden, in the autumn of 1991, the success was instant. Back to top 1996 - Company of the Year The fastest growing company in Denmark Due to the international success with the TEMPUR Products, Dan-Foam in 1996, out of approximately 13,000 companies, was elected the 'Fastest Growing Company' in Denmark. The criteria considered by the jury for electing the winner of this prestigious annual award were:   •  Percentage turnover increase   •  Percentage export increase   •  Percentage employment increase   •  Percentage growth in net income   •  Profit margin   •  Turnover per employee   •  Capital growth Among the top 10 for four consecutive years Also, in the following years, 1997,1998 and 1999, Dan-Foam remained to be elected among the top 10 fastest growing companies. After 1999, Dan-Foam's turnover exceeded the limit for being nominated. Founded The TEMPUR World merger In 1999, in preparation of a TEMPUR stock exchange introduction, anticipated for year 2003, the shareholders of Dan-Foam A/S and TEMPUR-Pedic, Inc., USA, merged their participations to form TEMPUR World, Inc., a Delaware, USA, holding company. Back to top 2000 - World Expo, Hannover, Germany The Millennium Expo Since the beginning of the 20th Century, world expositions have regularly been arranged where people and nations present aspects of cultures as well as state of the art science and technology. The first exposition of the new Millennium took place in Hannover, Germany, June 1st - October 31st, 2000. The TEMPUR Relaxation Lounge TEMPUR was invited supplier to the 'Scape Hall' of the World Expo 2000, providing a relaxation lounge with 200 TEMPUR Mattresses and Couches. The TEMPUR Lounge was highly appreciated by exhausted visitors as well as exhibitors, who were given the opportunity to experience 'The 21st Century Pressure Relieving Comfort Material'. Back to top 2001 -TEMPUR U.S. Plant The 2nd Tempur World factory In August 2000, construction began on the 2nd TEMPUR World Factory, located at Duffield, Virginia, USA. With an annual growth rate of 40 percent, the increase in volumes to be produced and handled requires a carefully planned investment program. 30,000 m2 factory area In May 2001, the 30,000 m2 Duffield factory started production. It is scheduled to employ 250 people by 2003. The U.S. factory enables a substantially quicker and safer service, fulfilling the rapidly growing demands from the North American market. Back to top 2002 - A New Chapter in the History of TEMPUR World. Inc. Two American equity firms are teaming up to acquire TEMPUR World Inc. The two private equity firms TA Associates and Friedmann, Fleischer & Lowe purchase the vast majority of the interests in TEMPUR World, Inc. The take over is of mutual interest and it offers new perspectives to the development of TEMPUR World, Inc. Of the 18,750,000 shares being offered, the Company is selling 6,250,000 shares and 12,500,000 shares are being sold by certain of the Company's stockholders. TEMPUR-Pedic expects the shares to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "TPX". The TEMPUR Deluxe combines all the unique pressure relieving qualities of TEMPUR with a luxurious softer feel that is unparalled in the bedroom. The TEMPUR Deluxe is a 22cm mattress with a different construction offering a quilted cover with a 2cm layer of deliciously soft TEMPUR material embedded within it.
