TEMPUR-MED Mattress in the Operating Theatre, Uppsala, Sweden
For 4 months we have used a TEMPUR-MED Mattress on the operating table in the theatre for ear operations at Akademiska Sjukhuset, Uppsala. The mattress has been used for patients undergoing long (6 - 9 hours) operations, as the risk for developing pressure sores is extremely high in these cases. Especially the skin on the heels, the sacrum and the shoulder blades is a high-risk area for developing pressure sores.
During this period 52 patients have been operated lying on the TEMPUR-MED Mattress, none of them have complained about ache or soreness and no one have developed pressure sores after the operation.
Patients suffering from rheumatic arthritis often complain of bodily pain after operations. Several of these patients have spontaneously commented how comfortable the TEMPUR-MED Mattress was during the operation.

Evaluation of the use of visco-elastic foam replacement mattress in the prevention of pressure ulcers in low-medium risk acute, palliative and long term patients.
Poster presented at the 4th European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) open meeting in Pisa, Italy, 2000.
Conclusion:
The TEMPUR-Mattress is a very good prevention strategy for the prevention and treatment of patients at risk or with pressure ulcers.
The TEMPUR-Mattress had a very good acceptance from the patients and their care givers. Although it is indicated for low-medium risk patients, according to our experience it is useful for high risk patients in short periods when there are no high risk devices available.

An evaluation of four operating table mattresses used for preventing pressure ulcers.
Poster presented at the 3rd European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) open meeting in Amsterdam, Holland 1999.
Conclusion:
The danger for developing pressure ulcers is high. The standard operating table mattress, the foam mattress and the gel mattress tested have little or no pressure reducing qualities. The visco-elastic mattresses tested have the best pressure reducing qualities and are preferable in the prevention of pressure ulcers on an operating table. There is not a significant pressure decrease in every position. In lateral position pressure remains high and the risk of pressure ulcer development continue to be high.

The effect of different turning intervals on the development of pressure ulcers.
Paper presented at the 3rd European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) open meeting in Amsterdam, Holland 1999.
Conclusion:
Turning has no preventive effect on the development of stage I pressure ulcer (non-blanchable erythema). If non-blanchable erythema is not considered to be pressure ulcer, turning every 4 hours on a visco-elastic mattress is a more effective and less labour-intensive method than the traditional 2- or 3-h turning scheme.

New Materials for the Decubitusprevention and -therapy
Die Schwester Der Pfleger, Nummer 11, 1998
Conclusion:
Both TEMPUR Products are to be regarded as cheap, easy to use, comfortable, easy to keep up and permanent efficacious alternatives to the Antidecubitus-Systems. The utilisation of these products can make the Antidecubitus-Systems dispensable and help to safe money for the rental of big and expensive rotation or sandwich beds, if neccessary.

TEMPUR-MED Pressure Prevention Mattresses reducing liability insurance claims
"Our affiliation with TEMPUR-MED has allowed us to bring a real solution to our clients; addressing liability insurance, prevention of claims, and quality of care. Liability insurers favor the TEMPUR-MED program by providing lower rates to our clients due to its clinically proven results and TEMPUR’s indemnification provision for pressure sore claims. TEMPUR-MED is definitely a win-win situation for our clients, their insurer, and, most importantly, the nursing home residents."

"This is really a remarkable innovation, with the advantages of a water bed, but with none of its disadvantages. Because of the great potential to our patients, I have agreed to give it my endorsement, something I have steadfastly refused to do in the past, for back aids."
Donald Norfolk D.O., London
"Perhaps the most common injury that we see is back pain and neck pain. Treatment in the past has consisted of muscle relaxants, painkillers and other drug therapy. Now for the first time the TEMPUR Mattress has given us an alternative to traditional drug therapy. I have had excellent results with patients of mine with back problems. I also sleep on the mattress myself."
Mark Rukavina, M.D., Emergency Room Specialist
"As a surgeon, I often come home after not sleeping for 24+ hours and often only have a few hours of rest. My wife and I have found our King sized TEMPUR Bed to be the most comfortable bed we have ever owned. I find a few hours on my TEMPUR Bed equal to several hours on any other bed. We have tried every expensive box spring mattresses and even fancy "air" beds. None ever came close. I have extremely restful sleep on my TEMPUR Bed; I never wake up sore or achy.
Ian E. Parker, D.O.
"Quite simply, the TEMPUR Mattress is far superior than any other product currently available. I am constantly recommending that my "back pain" patients take advantage of the 30-day trial (special marketing offer in some countries). The product is slightly more expensive than other high quality products, but I convince my patients that the extra cost is well worthwhile, if a good result can be achieved. I use a TEMPUR Pillow myself, and find them to be of substantial benefit to my patients. I keep a constant stock for loan purposes."

"As a neurosurgeon who sees many patients with back and neck pain and spinal problems, I was delighted to discover the TEMPUR Mattress. This mattress is clearly superior in terms of comfort and support to my other mattresses at home and foam mattress pads that I have tried in the hospital. I can think of no other brand or type of mattress that I can so enthusiastically endorse as the TEMPUR Mattress."
